Controls Technician – Custom Automation & Robotics

Full-Time | On-Site | Birmingham, AL Area Build Custom Automation Systems

Join a growing automation company designing and building custom manufacturing equipment for a wide range of industries. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be involved in everything from panel building and machine assembly to PLC programming and field commissioning .

What You’ll Be Doing Build, Assemble & Install • Assemble custom automation equipment using hand and power tools • Build and wire electrical control panels from prints and schematics • Integrate and modify robotic, mechanical, and control systems • Support installation and startup at customer sites • Maintain a clean and organized shop and work environment Controls & Troubleshooting • Modify and support PLC, HMI, VFD, and servo systems • Troubleshoot and repair electromechanical and automated equipment • Perform system testing, debugging, and quality checks • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed Team Collaboration • Work closely with engineering, project, and mechanical teams • Support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment • Interact directly with customers during installs and service work What We’re Looking For • Experience in electromechanical, maintenance, or controls technician roles • Exposure to: • PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, robotics, or servo systems (any combination) • Electrical prints and schematics • Comfortable using hand tools (own tools preferred) • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Willingness to travel up to ~30% • Able to lift 50+ lbs and work in a hands-on environment • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record • Strong communication and basic computer skills Compensation & Benefits • Hourly rate • 401(k) with company match • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance • Paid Time Off • Flexible scheduling Why This Role Stands Out • Work on custom, one-of-a-kind automation systems • Gain experience across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines • Be part of a tight-knit, collaborative team • Opportunity to grow into controls engineering or project leadership roles • Mix of shop work and field service —no two days are the same
