Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who exemplifies Nilsine Partners’ core values – Nothing Without Trust, Pursuit of Improvement, Real Everyday Authenticity, and Your Family, My Family, Our Family – in every interaction with clients, colleagues, and the community.
About the Role
A Senior Portfolio Manager serves as a strategic leader on the Investment Team, partnering closely with the Chief Investment Officer to drive portfolio strategy, execution, and operational excellence. This role is critical in maintaining data integrity, managing re-balances, and ensuring clients receive best-in-class investment execution and controls. A Senior Portfolio Manager requires deep technical expertise in portfolio construction, risk management, and performance analytics, as well as the ability to mentor junior team members and enhance firm-wide investment processes.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Strategy & Execution
· Lead the design and execution of complex portfolio strategies across multiple custodians and platforms, ensuring precision, scalability, and adherence to client objectives.
· Oversee all aspects of trading and re-balancing, including tax-aware transitions, cash management, and tactical adjustments in response to market conditions.
· Partner with the Chief Investment Officer to translate firm-level investment strategy into actionable portfolio decisions and model updates.
· Evaluate and implement enhancements to trading workflows, re-balancing tools, and execution quality to maintain best-in-class standards.
Portfolio Oversight & Data Integrity
· Own daily position, price, and transaction reconciliations between custodian feeds, OMS, performance systems, and the general ledger; research and resolve breaks end-to-end.
· Oversee performance calculations and composite support, ensuring accuracy of reports delivered to advisors, clients, and internal governance teams.
· Maintain and refine account metadata, including restrictions, IPS tags, benchmarks, tax lots, and household logic, while upholding documentation standards.
Risk Management, Compliance & Governance
· Serve as a senior control point for investment operations, ensuring adherence to firm policies, trading restrictions, and regulatory requirements.
· Lead the identification and mitigation of operational risks, implementing advanced control frameworks such as maker-checker processes and exception dashboards.
· Prepare and present materials for Investment Committee and Compliance reviews, contributing to governance discussions and policy development.
Client Service & Relationship Support
· Collaborate with advisors and client service teams to ensure operational accuracy and timely execution of investment strategies.
· Deliver clear, proactive communication regarding portfolio activity, performance reporting, and operational updates to internal stakeholders.
· Provide high-level portfolio insights, performance commentary, and market perspectives to support client meetings and business development efforts.
Personal Development
· Advance technical proficiency in portfolio management, trading systems, and data analytics to ensure precision, scalability, and best-in-class execution.
· Strengthen leadership and mentoring skills by supporting the development of junior team members.
· Cultivate emotional intelligence and communication skills to foster trust and authenticity with clients and colleagues.
· Seek and act on feedback to refine professional performance and client service excellence.
· Maintain a proactive mindset toward learning, innovation, and adapting to industry trends.
· Demonstrate accountability and ownership in driving individual and team success.
The Ideal Candidate
· 8+ years in wealth management or asset management operations/portfolio management within an RIA or similar environment.
· CFA® or CIPM preferred; Series 65 or 66 required or obtainable within 90 days of hire.
· Technologically savvy with strong competency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; hands-on experience with custodians and RIA platforms, rebalancers, and performance systems.
· Exceptional communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts clearly; comfortable with occasional public or internal presentations.
· High EQ, problem-solving, analytical rigor; organized, detail- and deadline-sensitive; prioritizes effectively in a dynamic environment.
· Team player with a “no-ego” approach—able to work with and through others; proactive self-starter who takes initiative.
