Food Manufacturing Location, Salem, MA Position : Maintenance Automation Technician Shift : 3rd Payrate : $40 an / hr. Employment: Contract to Hire Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic Purpose Statement The Maintenance Mechanic ensures the efficient operation of all plant equipment by performing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic repairs, as well as preventive maintenance. Key Responsibilities • Troubleshoot and diagnose maintenance failures • Utilize assembly drawings, P&IDs, and manuals to tune and repair equipment • Apply electrical and logic principles (including VFDs, SCRs, motor starters, PLCs, and SLCs) to resolve equipment issues • Perform basic plumbing, metalworking, and general facilities/building maintenance • Work with operating devices such as gauges, RTDs, pressure transmitters, I/Ps, and vortex flow meters • Train new associates and team members on required maintenance skills • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area in compliance with GMP and safety standards • Operate SCADA systems and complete relevant documentation • Support operations by training associates on basic equipment troubleshooting • Observe and enforce all company safety standards, policies, and procedures • Participate in safety training and report hazards, injuries, or incidents promptly • Review and verify specifications, inspect parts, and conduct audits to ensure build readiness • Collaborate with engineering on new product integration and procedural development • Respond to urgent maintenance needs with appropriate tools and equipment • Interpret technical documents such as blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals • Maintain records and logs of maintenance activities • Monitor equipment during operation to detect and address malfunctions • Provide support and training to technicians and assemblers; may act as a quality lead • Utilize quality tools and assist supervisors with daily production alignment • Operate a variety of tools used for electrical and mechanical troubleshooting • Possess a strong understanding of AC/DC motors, sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and communication protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Modbus, Hart, Serial) • Apply knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and automation controllers using programming languages such as Ladder Logic, FBD, SFC, and Structured Text (experience with Rockwell, B&R, Yaskawa, Wonderware is preferred) • Collaborate with the controls team to manage projects from sales to installation • Write and implement code for PLC and HMI programs • Contribute to Smart Factory development and innovative automation solutions • Actively engage as a member of a high-performance, self-directed work team • Foster strong working relationships across teams • Maintain and troubleshoot Mixers, Dough Depositors, Freezers, Packaging Equipment, and Robotic Palletizers • Apply TPM knowledge, specifically in the areas of Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) Knowledge, Skills, and Experience • 3-5 years of experience in maintenance within a manufacturing or processing environment, preferably involving advanced control systems • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to train and support fellow associates in maintenance practices • Self-motivated team player with the desire to work within a Self-Directed Team structure • Proficiency in SCADA systems • Solid mechanical, electrical, and logic troubleshooting knowledge • Working knowledge of plumbing, metalwork, and general building maintenance • Familiarity with Associate Safety guidelines and GMP/Food Safety practices • Understanding of proper machine operation and adjustment • Willingness to participate in improvement initiatives and cross-functional teams
