Project Accountant

Robert Half Permanent Placement is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to support financial operations for a commercial HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractor in the Cheektowaga / Buffalo area. This role is responsible for project-level accounting, including payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable, and general accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across multiple active jobs. Starting salary is $55,000 - $60,000 based on experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Responsibilities include but not limited to • Process weekly payroll for 150+ employee timecards, ensuring accuracy and compliance • Assist with accounts payable including invoice entry, coding, and vendor payments • Assist with accounts receivable, including billing, collections, and cash application • Track and maintain job costs, budgets, and project financial reporting • Assist with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting • Review and verify job-related expenses, subcontractor invoices, and change orders • Maintain accurate financial records and support audit requests as needed • Collaborate with project managers to ensure alignment on budgets and cost tracking • Utilize Excel for reporting, data analysis, and financial tracking Skills and Requirements: • 2+ years of accounting experience in construction or project-based environments required. Construction / Home Services experience highly preferred • Experience processing high-volume payroll (100+ timecards preferred) • Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting principles • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required • Experience with Sage 300 (or similar ERP system) highly preferred • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Benefit highlights: • Paid vacation, NYS sick time, paid holidays, simple IRA, Health insurance, and much more
