Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Interim Human Resources Director on behalf of a growing, mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities and supporting vulnerable populations through innovative programs, direct services, and strategic partnerships. Through a broad range of community-focused initiatives, the organization works to create meaningful pathways toward stability, wellness, and long-term success for individuals and families throughout the region.

This is a full-time interim opportunity based in Los Angeles, California, with the potential to transition into a permanent leadership position. Reporting directly to executive leadership, the Interim Human Resources Director will play a critical role in strengthening organizational culture, supporting workforce initiatives, enhancing employee engagement, and building the people infrastructure necessary to support continued growth and mission success. POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Interim Human Resources Director serves as a key member of the leadership team, providing strategic oversight of all human resources functions while ensuring workforce practices align with organizational goals, compliance requirements, and mission-driven values. This role will oversee employee relations, performance management, talent development, benefits administration, policy development, compliance initiatives, and organizational culture efforts across a diverse and growing workforce.

The ideal candidate is an approachable, emotionally intelligent leader who can balance strategic planning with hands-on execution. They will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership while implementing systems, processes, and best practices that support employee success, organizational effectiveness, and long-term sustainability. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all human resources functions, including workforce planning, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and organizational development • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on personnel matters, organizational structure, workforce strategy, and risk management • Lead initiatives focused on employee engagement, retention, leadership development, workplace culture, and staff wellness • Oversee HR operations, including onboarding, policy administration, benefits, payroll oversight, compliance programs, and personnel systems • Ensure compliance with employment laws, workplace regulations, audits, grant requirements, and organizational policies • Develop and implement scalable HR systems, processes, and accountability measures that support organizational growth and operational excellence

QUALIFICATIONS: • Demonstrated experience leading human resources functions within nonprofit, social services, healthcare, behavioral health, community-based, government-funded, or other mission-driven organizations • Strong knowledge of employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, talent development, compensation, benefits administration, and organizational development • Experience advising executive leaders and managers on complex personnel matters, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, corrective actions, and risk mitigation strategies • Deep understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws, HR compliance requirements, workplace policies, and best practices • Proven ability to develop and implement HR systems, policies, procedures, employee handbooks, training programs, and workforce accountability measures

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This interim opportunity offers a compensation range of $65-70/hour plus health benefits and sick time, with the potential for conversion into a permanent Human Resources Director position.
